Swiss offshore drilling contractor Transocean Ltd has signed a rig design and construction management contract with Chevron worth US$830m (£653m).
The rig, located in the Gulf of Mexico, will be the first ultra-deepwater floater rated for 20,000 pounds per square inch (psi) operations and is scheduled to come online in the second half of 2021.
Chevron also awarded the company a five-year drilling contract for one of its ultra-deepwater drillships currently under construction at the Jurong shipyard in Singapore.
The state-of-the-art drillship will feature dual 20,000psi blowout prevents, net hook-load capacity of 3m pounds, 165-tonne active heave compensating crane and an enhanced dynamic position system.
