From November 5 to 8, 2018, the sixth session of the Arab-China Cooperation Conference on Energy was held in Cairo, Egypt. Liu Baohua, deputy administrator of China’s National Energy Administration (NEA), Ashraf, Deputy Minister of Petroleum of Egypt, Osama Ali Asran, Deputy Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Kamal Hassan Ali, Arab League assistant secretary-general for economic affairs, and Liu Yongfeng, Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Cairo, and other guests, totally nearly 300, attend the conference. As the only Chinese operator in the oil and natural gas industry in Egypt, North Petroleum International Company (NPIC) was present at the meeting.
Liu Baohua, Asran, Ashraf, Ali, Liu Yongfeng and other domestic and foreign guests made speeches at the session. They highly praised the cooperation between China and Arab and China and Egypt in the energy industry, and extended their hope for further deepening pragmatic cooperation in the energy field under the Belt and Road Initiative by grasping the opportunities brought by the session.
During the event, NPIC general manager Hou Xirou and Ashraf held talks. Hou introduced production, new wells and exploration of three blocks in Egypt， and even future investment plans for increasing the reserves and ramping up the production, and also hoped the Egypt Ministry of Petroleum to continuously support ZhenHua Oil’s long-term investment in Egypt. Ashraf, Deputy Minister of Petroleum mentioned that ZhenHua Oil is the only Chinese company in the petroleum and natural gas development sector in Egypt, and he wished the company to increase investment in Egypt and actively participate in the upcoming open bidding of the Red Sea block.
The Arab-China Cooperation Conference on Energy, jointly sponsored by NEA and League of Arab States, is a significant meeting in the energy field under the framework of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum. The conference is held every two years, and five sessions have been successfully held since its inception in 2008.
