The successful candidate will lead a team of technologists and engineers working within the DFJV.
A key role and a key connection to Castrol and Castrol Technology community via dotted reporting line to the Castrol’s Technology Director in China.
Drive technology development and innovation for the DFJV.
Maximize return for DFJV by driving the technology strategy and implementation with DFJV team, delivering compelling differentiated propositions at optimized formulation costs.
Provide on-going technical expertise to DFJV team.
Perform as technical tag linking back to GLT to provide project update, share technology development progress and leverage BP technical expertise to drive project implementation under agreed IP framework.

Leading a team of technologists, senior development technologists and engineers to deliver technical projects to support the business objectives.
• Lead team development in terms of developing performance contracts, ensuring team members have career & leadership behavior development action plans.
• Ensure test programs are executed within codes of practice / quality systems.
• Provide technical expertise in setting up and executing technical programs.
• Maintaining technical assurance and product integrity of marketing and performance claims of products.
technical expert; be able to represent DFJV’s technology with strategic partners / customers.
Supporting activity to ensure DFJV’s claims of product approvals comply with OEM and internal guidelines.
Champion Intellectual Property acquisition and infringement risk assessments within the team.
Proactively manage team budget.
This role will be based in the Wuhan, China but expected to build strong working relationships with the Castrol China Technology Center located in Shanghai and other global technology centers and the functions listed below under ‘key interactions’; in order to achieve this it is anticipated up to 25% of travel is required.
Work with external suppliers, especially the additive companies to ensure access to their latest technologies and developments.
Managing and delivering the agreed projects within the context of a changing external environment which can create urgent & unexpected work (such as base oil shortages, additive shortages, cost of raw material increases) and also in a fluctuating business environment where the objectives are often “moving targets”.
To balance marketing desire for differentiated products with unique formulations or propositions in environment where cost of goods has to be reduced and formulation proliferation is not desirable.
• Master/PhD Degree level or equivalent in a scientific subject
Essential experience and job requirements
Experience (years and nature)
• Typically a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the relevant industry.
• At least 1-2 years’ knowledge of product development.
• The post holder must have excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated good networking skills, cross functionally and cross culturally. Experience of working across different cultures would be beneficial.
• Must have experience and demonstrated good skills at leading and developing teams.
• Have strong project management experience in an international arena, with outstanding track record on delivery.
• Experience of managing project budgets
• Experience of working in ambiguous/changing environments and able to respond to fast changing circumstances.
