Aker Solutions’ Application Engineering team based in Mobile, AL is responsible for the design of subsea oil and gas equipment. We are looking for a Welding Engineer to join our team of engineers and designers.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Prepare technical documents such as welder qualifications, weld procedures, weld procedure qualifications, weld binders and work instructions for review by senior team members
  • Assist and advise manufacturing and quality departments in start-up and in-process activities related to welding and NDE
  • Under guidance of more senior welding engineers, work with welding teams to qualify weld procedures and welders
  • Assist in review of proposed supplier welding procedures, welder qualifications and welding plans
  • Manage own work on a day to basis under a degree of direct supervision
  • Review compiled welding and NDE documentation
  • Present ideas for changes/improvements in process and design to manufacturing and senior team members for implementation

Qualifications and Personal Qualities:

  • Bachelors in Welding Engineering, Materials Joining or Welding Engineering Technology.
  • 1 – 3 years of relevant technical experience
  • Ability to assist bid and proposal processes
  • Experience in subsea equipment welding and material requirements is preferred
  • Ability to assist bid and proposal processes
  • Relevant knowledge of ASME IX, ASME B31.3, AWS D1,1 is required and API 6A, API 17 Series and API 2A is preferred
  • Relevant knowledge of NDE processes such as UT, MT, PT and RT
  • Relevant knowledge of welding processes such as but not limited to GTAW, FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, SAW.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills is important
