We are continuing to grow the geotechnical team in our Swindon office.

The geotechnics and engineering geology team in Swindon is one of JACOBS’ main centres for geotechnics within the UK and currently employs circa 26 staff. The team undertakes a wide range of internal service work, a proportion of which is for overseas JACOBS infrastructure projects, together with a broad range of projects for external clients that are won and managed by the team. Areas of work include port developments, highways, bridges, dams, nuclear waste disposal and power stations and our work also includes a significant river and canal engineering and flood defence workload. This varied workload provides exceptional prospects for career development, as the team is involved with some of the largest, most complex and prestigious civil engineering projects.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

–   perform project tasks to an agreed scope, programme and budget

–   manage packages of work / small projects

–   ensure effective communication with the project team and client

–   be a good team player, well organised and able to make strategic project decisions to ensure delivery to time, budget and standard

–   delivering geotechnical designs

–   supervise and mentor junior staff

–   undertake site based assignments

–   producing accurate and well presented reports

The minimum qualifications for this position are:
The minimum qualification is:
-A first degree in Civil Engineering (or similar with a significant engineering / geotechnics component)
-MSc in Geotechnics / Soil Mechanics or equivalent
-Chartered (or of equivalent chartered experience, with an aspiration to achieve chartered status).
The ideal candidate will:
-be dynamic and confident, able to independently work on assignments with supervision but also be able to work as part of a team
-have a strong background and knowledge in geotechnical engineering analysis and design using current codes / standards, to assist in the cost effective delivery of geotechnical projects
-have an good knowledge of geotechnical design principles and practice (and related fields) in four or more of the following areas:
  • foundation design – spread and piled
  • retaining wall analysis
  • slope stability
  • FE / FD analysis
  • Seepage modelling
  • Earthworks
  • Reinforced earth
-have an interest in FE / FD numerical modelling and be willing to develop this area.
-be able to manage inputs across several projects.
-motivated to deliver to a high quality and to programme
