Role Summary:Manufacturing Production Engineer, will focus on the Engineering associated with the manufacturing process. Positions requiring understanding of a concepts, methods and procedures (technical Bachelor’s Degree). Development of processes and methodologies related to metal forming, polymer extrusion and assembly processes applied to Flexible Pipe Manufacture. Will include interfacing, facilitating and providing guidance to the manufacturing teams located in Newcastle (UK) and Niterói (Brazil).
Essential Responsibilities:Will support the team in collecting and analysing relevant data and recommend specific process improvement actions. Will also work closely with commercial team in supporting the ITO process by collecting relevant information from client product specifications and recommending actions for the most efficient industrial methods to deliver customer outcomes. The Manufacturing Product Engineer (Metals) will conceive design and support delivery of cutting edge manufacturing process technologies, mechanical & digital systems, and methods for metal forming in support of the Flexible Pipe Systems business – the focus will be aimed at gains in efficiency, quality and predictability in production outcomes, increasing business reliability, performance and profitability.This role will require strong project management skills. You will have the ability to work effectively in ambiguity, lead globally and cross-functionally to deliver on project objectives. Develop, organize, and lead the interface between design and manufacturing when it comes to employing process technology solutions:

  • Define and control production process including tooling and equipment.
  • Validate design specifications and shop floor application of new product, tools, or equipment.
  • Expected to resolve problems through the application of acquired expertise guided by precedent. Works together with people from the business unit.
  • Contacts are under guidance and/or geared towards specifying activities, planning of activities and giving explanations on technical issues.
  • Communicates with direct team and supervisor.
  • Presents to internal teams on metrics, project status and research.
  • Contribute to a cross-functional team aimed at improving Manufacturing / Inspection processes and systems.
  • Guide, train and provide technical counsel to new and experienced engineers, technicians and specialists in flexible pipe manufacturing.
  • Work in with commercial team on bids to identify future manufacturing requirements and design to cost objectives.
  • Advise personnel in the Design, Materials, and Manufacturing communities on the application of manufacturing and inspection processes and related quality systems.
  • Conduct in-plant tests in advance to actual pipes to assure production will run according to product spec.
  • Support Brilliant Factory (Manufacturing Operational Excellence) initiatives.
  • Attend meetings as determined by Manufacturing Leadership.
  • Identify and deploy manufacturing technologies that are aimed at reducing manufacturing cost and improving operational efficiency by working closely with the respective cell teams.
  • Maintain and monitor accurate written and computerised records for the process as detailed above in essential responsibilities.

  • Qualifications/Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college or equivalent knowledge and experience (or a high school diploma / GED with proven years of experience in Manufacturing). Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering or related field with post-degree experience or equivalent knowledge and experience
    • Lean Six Sigma experience & understanding
    • Desired Characteristics:
      • Demonstrated expertise in multi-disciplinary and global project teams to perform analytical and laboratory research work.
      • Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary environment and partner with other organizations to generate ideas and execute research projects – remove barriers.
      • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

      • Desirable experience in Lean Manufacturing & Digital Manufacturing technology.
      • Six Sigma Green Belt qualification or equivalent.
      • Previous experience of mentoring trainee engineers or apprentices.
      • Experience working in manufacturing environment, desirable in continuous production methods, focus on Metals forming, polymer extrusion and assembly processes.
      • Comply with all HSE Global regulations and policies.
      • Must be willing to travel to GE manufacturing locations and Supplier locations as needed.
      • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred flexible pipe.
      • Proven experience of RCA and problem solving.
      • Experience of report writing and data analysis.
      • Effective communication, proven ability to communicate issues and present findings to all levels within the business.
      • Working knowledge of Windows software, including Mini Tab and the specific ability in the advanced use of Excel spread sheets.
