As a Senior / Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will work as part of a team of geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists, providing support and advice to the wider Jacobs business and clients as well as acting as team leader on your own projects.  You will lead or assist in the delivery of geotechnical input to projects and will also be required to provide technical guidance, support and mentoring to less experienced junior engineers and technicians.

We are continuing to grow the geotechnical team in our Swindon office.
The geotechnics and engineering geology team in Swindon is one of JACOBS’ main centres for geotechnics within the UK and currently employs circa 26 staff. The team undertakes a wide range of internal service work, a proportion of which is for overseas JACOBS infrastructure projects, together with a broad range of projects for external clients that are won and managed by the team. Areas of work include port developments, highways, bridges, dams, nuclear waste disposal and power stations and our work also includes a significant river and canal engineering and flood defence workload. This varied workload provides exceptional prospects for career development, as the team is involved with some of the largest, most complex and prestigious civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities will include:
-to perform project tasks to an agreed scope, programme and budget
-manage packages of work / projects
-ensure effective communication with the project team and client
-identify and offer added value to bids, projects, team skills and deliverables
-be a good team player, well organised and able to make strategic project decisions to ensure delivery to time, budget and standard
-delivering geotechnical designs
-supervise and direct junior staff
-undertake site based assignments
The minimum qualifications for this position are:
The minimum qualification is:
-A first degree in Civil Engineering (or similar with a significant engineering / geotechnics component)
-MSc in Geotechnics / Soil Mechanics or equivalent
-Chartered (or of equivalent chartered experience, with an aspiration to achieve chartered status).
The ideal candidate will:
-be dynamic and confident, able to independently work on assignments with limited supervision but also be able to work as part of a team
-have a strong background and knowledge in geotechnical engineering analysis and design using current codes / standards, to assist in the cost effective delivery of geotechnical projects
-have an extensive and diversified knowledge of geotechnical design principles and practice (and related fields) in four or more of the following areas:
ofoundation design – spread and piled
oretaining wall analysis
oslope stability
oFE / FD analysis
oSeepage modelling
oEarthworks
oReinforced earth
-have a strong interest in FE / FD numerical modelling and be willing to develop this area.
-be able to manage / supervise medium / large projects or several small ones.
-have the ability to carry out complex or innovative assignments requiring development of new or improved techniques / procedures
-have the experience and the ability to check and review work of other professional staff and to supervise and direct junior staff
-motivated to deliver to a high quality and to programme
-commitment to professional and personal self-development
-Full Driving Licence is essential
