Role Summary:The Lead Controls Engineer to work on the design and development of GE Drilling Control Systems. In this role, will be exposed to all aspects of the control system, including application software, simulation, model based controls algorithm development, data management, controls hardware, and networking. Need to apply concepts to execute complex designs, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
Essential Responsibilities:• Design and development of GE Drilling Control System to include integration with electrical & mechanical systems, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and providing assistance to both internal and external customers • Prepare, record, and maintain design documents, including test, installation, and troubleshooting procedures• Participate in product development and production design for Surface and Subsea control systems• Provide technical support to customers, manufacturing, sales and field services• Execute, with some guidance from senior engineering resources, the analysis, design, test, or integration required to define and support assigned components, assemblies or systems that meet business standards and program / product requirements • Participate in teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives • Participate in continuous improvement and simplification activities• Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures• Prepare design certification documentation and work with third party certification bodies, such as DNV, IEC, API to achieve required design certifications• Provide timely and accurate communication of status to team, technical lead, and management• Re-engineer current systems to allow for flexibility, stability, and scalability while preserving existing functionality
Qualifications/Requirements:• Bachelor’s degree or above, major in automation, EE or computer science• Minimum of 7 years controls systems design experience• Demonstrated understanding of product development lifecycles• Mastery of English speaking & writing
Desired Characteristics:• Strong problem solving, time management and attention to detail skills• Knowledge of remote I/O protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, OPC, etc…• Oil & Gas, Drilling industry experience preferred• Industrial control experience• Experience with GE Mark VIe Control System, or experience of platforms like GE IP PLC, SIEMENS S7-400, Rockwell AB series• Strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and leadership ability• Quick learner, able to solve problems in a complex system• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team on multiple overlapping projects• Ability to focus on delivering results in a dynamic environment with aggressive deadlines and multiple priorities• “Can do” attitude• Willingness to travel occasionally, as required
